چکیده

Typically, the mechanical feedback that a user obtains during a gesture is simply the mechanical weight and friction of the specific input device being employed. This is very different from everyday experience. Here mechanical feedback to the hand and arm results from the manual manipulation of tools and other objects. This paper reports preliminary research to provide tactile feedback within gestural human computer interaction (HCI) at the users desktop. It discusses our preliminary ideas on the use of force display within gestural HCI for broadband telematics applications.

Gestural, Emergent and Expressive: Three Research Themes for Haptic Interaction

Drawing on three case studies of work in the fields of participatory design, interaction design and electronic arts, we reflect on the implications of these studies for haptic interface research. We propose three themes: gestural; emergent; and expressive; as signposts for a program of research into haptic interaction that could point the way towards novel approaches to haptic interaction and m...

Object Motion Rendering with the String-based Haptic Interface SPIDAR for Enhanced Video Viewing Experience

With the invention of immersive displays and high technology multimedia systems, there is an interest among viewers for more realistic and interactive experience with video media. Their viewing experience can be further enhanced by letting them to feel the motion of objects in a video through haptic interface, as it becomes an additional sensation over seeing and hearing it. The objective of th...

Multi-sensorial interaction with a nano-scale phenomenon : the force curve

Using Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM) to manipulate nanoobjects is an actual challenge for surface scientists. Basic haptic interfaces between the AFM and experimentalists have already been implemented. The multi-sensory renderings (seeing, hearing and feeling) studied from a cognitive point of view increase the efficiency of the actual interfaces. To allow the experimentalist to feel and touch ...

Softness Haptic Display Device for Human - Computer Interaction

In the field of virtual reality and teleoperation, haptic interaction between human operator and a computer or telerobot plays an increasingly important role in performing delicate tasks, such as robotic telesurgery, virtual reality based training systems for surgery, virtual reality based rehabilitation systems (Dario et al, 2003) (Taylor, Stoianovici, 2003) (Popescu, et al, 2000), etc. These ...

The Paradox of Health Policy: Revealing the True Colours of This ‘Chameleon Concept’; Comment on “The Politics and Analytics of Health Policy”

Health policy has been termed a ‘chameleon concept’, referring to its ability to take on different forms of disciplinarity as well as different roles and functions. This paper extends Paton’s analysis by exploring the paradox of health policy as a field of academic inquiry—sitting across many of the boundaries of social science but also marginalised by them. It situates contemporary approaches ...
